
Hiking Mountain Elgon
Mountain Elgon Hiking tours takes you to the largest surface area of extinct volcano the world has ever had. Mountain Elgon rises through series of gradual slopes featured by a number of steep cliffs that rise to a height of 4321m above the sea level. The cave gorges, waterfalls, cliffs, and the volcanic foothills together with the eye-catching views across wide plains that create some of the most panoramic scenery in Uganda. During the wet seasons (rainy season) it’s not recommended to hike on Mountain Elgon which is April and May. Hikers always goes to the Budadiri where the hike begins. The Mountain Elgon National Park office can organize the hike for guides, porters, and packed food, etc. the hike to the top of the Mountain lasts for four days.
Mount Elgon tours has two main trails and these include:
Budadiri access. This is quite steep with a climb of 1600m on the first day; the Piswa trail begins siam and it is relatively gentle. However, there are alterntive trails that range from easy hikes to hard climbs.

On reaching the tourism office in Mbale, will avail maps or different suggestions that suit one’s requirements. The hike is straightforward and be executed easily by non-hikers. The mountain trail is steep in some places though It is possible to reach the caldera an return to the park offices with in a period of three days while walking on a very comfortable pace. Hiking Tours on Mountain Elgon
First day
Very early in the morning, you will drive to Jinja, visit the source of the Nile and Bujagal falls. You will have lunch and proceed to sipi falls/ Mbale/ Kapchorwa/ kapkwata basing on your point of origin, you will as well begin mount Elgon hiking. You will have a dinner and an overnight.
Day two
After heavy breakfast I the morning, park clearance and commence hiking, you will have lunch, dinner, as well as an overnight on the trail, you can use either a hat or a tent.
Day Three.

Day four.

Day five.

Day six.
This is always the the last day on the mountain. After a morning breakfast, you continue descending on the trail, with lunch along the trail. You will have an overnight around sipi falls, Mbale, Kapkwata basing on the return trail. It is possible to drive to jinja when you make it to return from hiking early enough.
Day Seven.
After breakfast, you will drive to the capital city Kampala with lunch along the route.
