How to access Nyungwe Forest National Park? Visitors can access Nyungwe by air and road transport since all the roads leading to the park are well tarmacked and easy to travel on. Travelers can move by bus that g5o to Ruzizi district and start the journey from Nyabugogo Bus Park in Kigali. However, this way of accessing Nyungwe Forest National Park is a bit slow as you will need to travel for 8 hours to reach the Uwinka visitors center. Some buses pass via the park but sometimes when they are full. You should hire a car with any tour operator to avoid the hustles of connecting from Gisakula to the visitor’s center at Uwinka.

Upon landing at Kigali International Airport, you will drive south until you meet towns amidst rolling hills with spectacular views and continue to Huyu town which is about 35 kilometers away from the city center of Kigali. The road is in good shape but with sharp corners because of the hilly topography of Rwanda. Then u will encounter Muhanga then to king’s place in Nyanza as you continue to Butare and from here you will join the hilly roads leading to the park headquarters at Gisekula. It will take you about 85 kilometers to drive from Huyu town to park headquarters.

Air Transport; visitors who are not used to long distances can access Nyungwe Forest National park by use of air transport. Visitors will need to book a ticket with Rwanda which provides domestic flights to the parks. Currently are about 9 flights per week from Kigali international airport to Kamembe international airport where you can drive for 60 minutes to access Nyungwe Forest, National Park. Alternatively, visitors can use Akagera aviation that offers domestic flights directly to One and Only Nyungwe house which is only forty kilometers to access the park.
