6 DAYS QUEEN ELIZABETH AND MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

The 6 days Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls national park features the best Savannah National parks for the big five mammals. Murchison falls national park is the largest national park and Queen Elizabeth is the second largest national park.

Murchison falls is the best and largest national park connected with the longest river Nile with a variety of attractions. Murchison falls is surrounded by Hippos and Nile crocodiles. the park boasts of 75 mammals and 451 bird species and the park is best visited from December-February and June to September since it is the dry season when the animals are out to hunt and drink water along the river banks.

The park is divided into two sections which are crossed by the water and a bridge is built for easy access to the two sides by vehicles. the most tourist attraction in Murchison falls, where the water violently passes through a 7-meter gorge, spraying water droplets over a 50-meter radius calling it the ‘’Devils Cauldron’’ and this creates a permanent rainbow across the water.

Queen Elizabeth national park is the second largest and most visited national park located in the southwestern part of the Rubirizi district with massive biodiversity, and savannah vegetation covering an area of 1,978sqkm.

The park was first founded in 1952 as Kazinga national park but after the visit of the late Queen Elizabeth 11it was named after her and it is blessed with over 95 mammal species, and 600 bird species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via the top of the falls.

You will be picked up by the company driver depending on your location to transfer you to Murchison falls national park which takes about 5-6 hours with en-route lunch at Masindi town before proceeding to the park. Enter the park via the Kichwabanobo gate to connect to the top of the falls for the best experience to start off with the safari and then to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 2: Game drive and Boat cruise

After breakfast, you will drive to the delta on the northern bank where you will find most of the animals. the drive will take about 2-3 hours depending on where the animals are located and some of the animals include elephants, Buffalos, Lions, Oribis, and Waterbucks.

In the afternoon after lunch, you will set off for a boat cruise on the Nile to the bottom of the falls where you will have an opportunity to view Hippos, Crocodiles, and Birds along the shores of the Nile then return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight as above.

Day 3: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino tracking

After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, you will check out and head to Bugoma to Queen Elizabeth national park with a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino tracking that will take around 2-3 hours then back to the lodge for lunch, dinner, and overnight at Ziwa Guest House.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park which takes a 5-6hours drive with a stopover for lunch at Fort portal and proceed to the booked lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight at Elephant Hub Safari lodge.

Day 5: Game Drive and Afternoon Boat cruise

Have an early morning breakfast, proceed for a game drive with chances of finding animals like Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffaloes, Antelopes, Warthogs, and primates like the black and white colobus monkeys. Return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will have a launch cruise along Kazinga Channel where you will be able to spot various bird species, Buffaloes, Elephants, Hippos, and Crocodiles, and later go and visit Katwe mines. 

Day 6: Return to Kampala

After breakfast, check out of the lodge to embark on your journey back to Kampala which takes around 6-7 hours with a stopover at the Equator for the experience. The driver will drop you off at the international airport or at any place of your choice.
