This 3 Day safari to Murchison falls National Park will take you to Uganda’s largest, oldest and one of the most visited wildlife destinations in Uganda. Murchison Falls National Park is located in the North western Uganda, covering 3,480 square kilometers of various habitats ranging from grassland, forest, borassus palms, riverine woodland, and water, acacia savanna with the great River Nile going through it and bisecting it in to 2 part that is; Northern and Southern sector. The park shelters over 76 mammal species such as Roth child Giraffes, Elephants, Uganda Kobs, herds of Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Lions, Leopards and spotted hyenas, several primates species, aquatic species to mentions only a few, and over 450 bird species like the elusive Shoebill, Papyrus Gonolek, Swamp Flycatcher, Goliath Heron and many others. The park got its name from the spectacular Murchison Falls formed by the Victoria Nile on its to its journey of 4100 miles to the Mediterranean sea.

The Murchison Falls provides a spectacular view of the Nile squeezing through a tiny gorge of about 7 meters wide and dropping43 meters into a pool forming the dramatic. However, your 3 Day safari to Murchison falls National Park includes a night game drive, take the boat cruise along the Nile and hiking to the top of the Murchison Falls.

Some of you may be wondering how to get to the park. But by means of road, it will take you around 5hours from Kampala with about 305 km. Paara covers a distance of about 85km from Masindi town by the shortest route.
A direct or longer route will cover an area of about 135km.Alternatively one may decide to take on the Budongo forest route that will provide magnificent views overlooking Lake Albert from the direct position of the rift valley escarpment over Butiaba.
You can also access Paara from the north through Chobe Gate, Karuma Falls along with Tangi. The Gate that is close to Pakwach covers an area of about 25km2 to paara in addition to Wankwar Gate close to Purongo. Click here for Uganda safaris.

People with Vehicles or public means will definitely go through the Nile at paara. It has a fixed time from 07.00 and 19.00.Besides road, Murchison can be accessed by air. Pakuba is the landing site for the charter flights and this takes about 19kms from paraa and Bugungu covers an area of 13kms from Paraa.

  1. Day 1 Kampala city / Entebbe international airport – Drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Drive to Murchison falls park – Night wildlife sighting game drive

    Meet and greet at your hotel / residence in Kampala or Entebbe International Airport by our representative who will be your driver guide that will warmly welcome you, brief you about your 3 Days safari to Murchison falls National Park and later start your drive to Murchison falls national park with an en-route stop at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola district for the white Rhino tracking experience. Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is the destination where one can meet the white rhinos in the Uganda’s Jungle after their massive killing in early 1970s due to numerous illegal human activities such as poaching and civil unrest that made them extinct. Before they became extinct, white Rhinos used to be found in Murchison Falls and Kidepo valley national parks. So, to re-introduction of Rhinos in the Uganda’s wildlife inventory, in 2005 Ziwa Rhino sanctuary in Nakasonga district was established and the project is impressively developing this is exhibited by the dramatic growth in the number of Rhinos in Uganda day. After they have fully multiplied to the required number, they will be re-introduced back to their usual national habitats and then Uganda shall have white rhinos in the wilderness again after a long time. During Rhino tracking experience, you will have an opportunity to see them closer to their feet with the help of the local site guide and other wildlife species may be seen. Once you them, you will have a maximum of one hour to stay with them and you will be allowed to take as many photos as you would want therefore, you have to keep your camera on standby not to miss any moments uncaptured. After the white Rhino experience, have a short break to relax, take a bottle of water to refreshment your and thereafter, proceed with the tour to Murchison Falls National Park with a stop en-route to have lunch in Masindi town and later drive straight to the park to check in at your reserved lodge to spend the entire evening relaxing then at 700pm, leave the lodge and drive to the park to start your night wildlife sighting game drive to lookout for the nocturnal species such as  spotted hyenas, porcupines, Nightjar, Civets, Lions, Hippopotamus, Leopards, and other animals while they are resting.   2. Day 2 Murchison Falls National Park – Morning wildlife sighting game drive – Afternoon boat trip along the River Nile – Hiking to the top of the falls

    The day begins with a fantastic breakfast at 630 am and then at 7:00am, leave the lodge to the park to start your early morning game drive along the Delta of Lake Albert the park’s greatest Savannah grasslands which is overlooking the Budongo forest reserve where you will see several mammals including several antelope species, Lions, common warthogs, Spotted hyenas, some primates species, Roth child giraffes, herds of the giant Elephants, Capped buffaloes and among others. Your driver guided will help you to spot several wildlife species throughout your game drive. Later early afternoon, head back to your lodge to freshen up, have lunch, and depart to paraa meeting point to start your mega afternoon boat cruise along the River Nile. While on the cruise, you spot several water bird species such as Kingfishers, the shoe billed stork, Giant Heron, Marabou stork, Black headed lapwing, among others, bloats of hippos, Nile crocodiles, monitor lizards, and many other land mammals like Elephants, Waterbucks, and many others when they have come to drink water along the river Nile shores.  The boat slowly will take you up to the foot of the Murchison falls were you will disembark and start your amazing hike to the top of the Murchison falls. You will be awestruck by great falls as the whole River Nile from Lake Victoria squeezes through a tiny rocky gorge of only 7 meters wide and dropping 43 meter into a pool forming a wonderful thunderous sound. The splashes of water from the falls generates mist in the air which forms a beautiful rainbow mostly in the evening hours.  At the end of the hike, you will meet your driver guide and then drive back to the lodge to relax, dinner and an overnight.

  3. Day 3 Murchison Falls National Park – Second Morning Game drive – Return to Kampala / Entebbe international airport

    You will get up early for a superb breakfast when all your bags are already packed in the car, check out of your room and then go for another morning wildlife sighting game drive in a different sector of the park to search for more wildlife species of the park and this will be the end of your Murchison falls safari. Later cross the Nile River and drive back to Kampala with an en-route stop to have lunch in Masindi town and proceed the drive to your residence / hotel in Kampala or Entebbe international airport for your return flight.
