When is the best time to the park?
Kidepo National Park is open to visit all year round. However, there are periods or months when the conditions are much fit for a wildlife safari to visit the park. In Uganda there two seasons namely the wet season or rainy season and the dry season. The best time to visit Kidepo national park is during the dry season (May to September and December to February). During this period, animals congregate around water bodies thus it is easy to spot wildlife. The vegetation in the park dries up giving clears views of the wildlife. Here visitors get a chance to see a variety of mammals and bird species in this park.
The wet season
The rains bring back the rivers and the animals tend to scatter and feed in smaller groups. This is because there is sufficient food and water everywhere. Although the dry season has its disadvantages, some visitors may find the heat and dust rough. The short rainy season still has decent views of the animals.
This is the best time for birding due to arrival of migratory birds. The heat is acceptable and even cool. During the wet season, animals scatter making it difficult to spot. At the rivers and swamps forcing tourists to go out looking for them.
